A few weeks ago I bought this German brass razor made by :"The Victoria Safety Razor Co." for $5. No, I don't know why a German company would have an English sounding name - quite frankly I know nothing about this razor and searching the internet didn't come up with anything either. If anyone have any information about the razor I'd be more than happy to learn The razor is your traditional three-piece razor with a rather nice looking OC head and I'm curious to find out how it shaves. The handle appears to be solid brass - it's slim yet heavy. It all arrived in a pretty sorry state - it was darkened by dirt and even had some artistic looking color splashes in various places: After soaking it in some water w/ detergent, using some scrubbing bubbles and a toothbrush - and finally some Maas it actually turned out rather nice (especially the handle that has an amazing golden brass glow now) For five dollars I think I did pretty well - assuming of course that it shaves ok
Looks like it was meant to shave like the Old type, which might have a bit of bite to it (imo). The handle alone is more than worth $5.
The handle appears unusually narrow, which ain't necessarily a bad...I'm trying to picture it with a gold or brassed NEW open comb head.
let us know how it shaves. it looks very nice, well worth quadruple your money. funny though, what started out as a production item, but it's age and rarity has given it a uniqueness. I like it.
It is indeed a rather skinny handle - here it is next to a Gillette NEW w/ common bar handle. Funny thing - as skinny as it is...it appears to actually weigh more than the NEW handle.
Looking at that NEW I'm so tempted to go get mine and mow off my 5+ days worth, but NO, the Ranger (delayed by NE weather) should be here tomorrow.
I have a similar one not the exact same, handle is shorter but looks very similar I got it on eBay for less than $10. I fixed it up for my wife to use under her arms it was very very very mild. Works great for her, she no longer gets razor burn shaving under her arms I, guessing she hasn't decided to try it on her legs yet. Is yours excessively mild
I'll tell you in a day or two when I've used it If you got a photo of yours I'd love to see - it's near impossible to find any information about this company online.
