Yes, a bit early, but I wanted to make sure some folks, like me, have time to prep for this up and coming Theme Week. Although posted for Monday the 8th through Sunday the 14th, feel free to jump in any time! Inspired by this thread, and a few others who have mentioned it, this week's theme is the Cold Water Shave. A rather appropriate time of year, for most of us anyway (our folks south of the equator may not think so), to really put the chill on temps reaching upper 90's, low 100's, don'tcha think? So what's to prep? Well, if you're like me and get your water from the city, summer tap water "cold" really means "luke warm." Usually that's good enough for a rinse, but I always follow that with an ice water splash provided by the .5 liter bottle of water I keep in the fridge just for my post shave routine. So for this week, I've filled up a gallon jug and have it in the fridge getting nice and cold. Come Monday I plan on giving this Cold Water Shaving thing a go. Who's with me?
As someone who's just discovered the joys of cold water shaving, I'd love to do this, but sadly it's just not warm enough here to commit. It's still in the 50s most mornings next week.
I have heard about cold water shaving, but I can't seem to relinquish my warm lather. The warm/hot water just relaxes me and is what I enjoy most about wet shaving. I will one day try a cold water shave, but I can't imagine it being an enjoyable experience.
That's part of what these Theme Weeks are for, an opportunity to explore various options related to shaving. It's like the old commercial, "Try it; you'll like it." You'll never know until you do. And nobody is saying that you MUST shave like this for the rest of your life. Bottom line, it's your shave. Enjoy it your way. To be honest, I've only tried it once, and it really wasn't that bad. I'm kinda looking forward to a full week of it just to see.
I'm in. I spent about half the day outside in 112 degree heat yesterday. I think I'm still sweating. I've got a tub of TSD sub-zero cream that should go nicely with cold water too
Since I'm going on vacation Tuesday, I decided to start Cold Water shave week a bit early. It was actually a Cool Water Shave, since I used it straight from the tap, no artificial cooling methods for me Saturday Cold water shaveCO Bigelow Cream Omega 49 Bowl lather E4 Fatboy set on 9 Astra SP blade (3) Proraso aftershaveA very nice shave, a couple of weepers on my neck but they were my fault, I was going after a couple of problem spots a bit too aggressively. Menthol and Eucalyptus just seemed appropriate for a cold water shave.
I use cool water. I might turn it down a notch since starting next Thursday, I will be shaving with ice cold water in the field.
Started Cold Water Shave Week a day early. I had a gallon jug of water in the fridge that gave me plenty for my 3-pass shave and rinse. Not bad. I'll give it a week and see if it's something I'll continue with.
Good timing for this theme..but alas this week I fear I am weak and still must warm the lather. Shave long and prosper..
Ive been forced to join by the sun....its been around 105-108 here the last week or so and that means cold showers and cold shaves...i prefer hot lather but have been getting good results with this so i dont mind cold shave summers
For me it's not all about the final results. My shave experience starts when I step into the shower and ends with a final twist of the 'stache. Today was a BBS shave, but I did not enjoy it. I'm not liking the cold water. It was difficult to whip up a usable lather. Everything else was great, but I am one who prefers warm lather and a warm water shave.
Three CWS done so far this week: Ingram cream, DVH boar brush, Valet Autostrop & Feather blade Daisy's Mountain Naturals (Cold Water), Omega travel boar, Gillette Old Style OC, Ever ready blade Godrej (Menthol Mist), Wilkinson Sword badger, Star 1912, Gem stainless blade Three fine shaves. But I still like my hot water shaves more.
