Gentlemen, Ladies...... I have developed a new way of lathering up with a shave stick. Its been working pretty well for me, and I'd like to do a pictorial showing just how it works. Its simple, but requires illustration. Here are the particulars: 1) I am not applying the stick to face, but swirling brush on the stick 2) I am using a "soft" brush Usually, soft brushes just don't work very well for me when it comes to using shave sticks. There's something about hard soap(stick) and soft wet brush that has been tricky. But I have mastered it. So.......what stick, and brush combo would you like to see? This is what I have: Sticks Speick Palmolive Valobra Wilkinson QED Erasmic Brushes (that fit "soft" criteria) EJ Finest Savile Row 3--- Kent BK4 Please cast your votes
By the way....this isn't rocket science, but I have a good time with this stuff. My only goal here is to do a good pictorial, and (maybe, possibly) have a couple people learn something.....and maybe provide some entertainment
I got a pretty good lather doing stick to face....then brush to face.....can adjust moisture by adding water to the brush. I was using SR and Wilkinson
I know brushes are suppose to hold up, but i dont want to trash a brush by rubbing a stick in it....so to speak....... That doesnt sound right...haha
Its not much different that swirling it on any other hard soap......actually, its probably easier on the brush this way. And, this is not a "dry-lather" technique, so don't worry.....no badger hairs will be harmed in the process
BK4 + Palmolive = MY combo that I'd also love to see yer doin' My technique: Rub the stick around the mug, work the stick with the brush, then create lather on the face and while waiting for it to soak 'em whiskers whip it further in the scuttle to keep the lather warm
Edwin Jagger and QED! Just for fun.. Myself I do the stick on face kinda thing.. No brush on stick at all.. Works very nice..
Savile Row and any or all of the following: Erasmic stick QED stick(s) Valobra stick The Kent BK4 would be interesting, but I've never used one, so couldn't relate.
Joe, You're going to have to excuse my ignorance on this one but I've got a question or two. I don't regularly use shave sticks, I only keep a couple on hand to provide some glycerin slickness before I blade buff if I'm trying to go sick smooth. I have used soaps in the past but stick with creams exclusively except as described. The sticks I have, (QED, and Tryphon) are nothing more than a glycerin based shave soap in a stick ? I can't see the difference between applying the stick to the brush and applying the brush to a puck. Is it the fact that you are trying to use a super soft brush with a soap? Maybe I'm just confused or these 1:00 a.m. baseball games are kicking my old a** but I can't figure this one out.
