This was a project that I enjoyed doing, as it honors an aircraft carrier during World War II and a man who served aboard her. It was very interesting to learn about it's service and sacrifices during the war. This first pic is the piece of wood I started with........ Shaped and primed with the hole for the knot........ Main decal added after it's Ocean Grey color done over the whole handle. Yeah, Ocean Grey has a blue tint to it. The decal covers a lot of the handle and probably the hardest part to do as it is so big. Showing some of the masking done to add the ship's other two camouflage colors, Light Grey and Dark Grey....... The next two pics showing it's main decal of the ship........ Now two pics of the finished brush. 20mm boar knot installed and the two final decals added with a bunch of clear coats. This was done to honor the Father of @RetLEO-07, who served aboard the USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24) as Yoeman Second Class till the end of the war........
The ship was struck by a Kamikaze October 1944 off Samar.... My Dad's battle station was in a quad 40mm gun tub port side forward
One of the things I found out while researching. I was going to ask you where he was when it happened, but I totally forgot about it. I get absent minded at times.
Jim, Fantastic work and a wonderful way to honor @RetLEO-07 dad, and those who served aboard the USS BelleauWood (CVL-24)
Good man, Jim. Great work too. God Bless You, and God Bless America as well. And thank you for your service sir.
