Hi guys Im a new member here. Ive just purchased a new paddle honing strop from cyral r salter

And my question is does anyone know what type of stone this is. As i cant find any info on the web. So thought I'd ask here.

All it tells me is its a 30k stone. Other than that nothing else. The paddle is quit small 1 inch & half wide. And around 5 to 6 inch long. Leather on 1 side and stone on the other.

On top of that i nicked the top right corner. hoping i can repair this in some way Not a bad cut. but certainly not i wanted to do
Grrrrrrr got distracted. And should of been concertrating more.

Anyway would just like your opinion guys on what type of stone etc.

If you do know the strop im talking about. Do you know if this is a crap paddle honing strop. Only wasn't exackly cheap .for what i was expecting in the post. And slightly disappointed tbh.

    Thanks mark.

The nick doesnt seem deep so im hoping i can sort it without causing more damage. Any advice would be really appreciated. Im just waiting for a bespoke hand made 3 inch leather strop with flax linen to arrive in the next few days.. and bought this on impulse so not sure if its any good or a pile of crap. Thanks again mark

Thanks for the link to groom manifest which ive already read but my question was if anyone knows of the strop and if so do they know what type of honing stone it is. And if its a good quality strop or not. On some websites it say 30k stones so im not sure if thats correct or not. ??

Hi and welcome. I doubt the stone is 30k grit, 30k stones are very expensive and not the best choice for maintenance. My guess is 10-12k range but that is a 'logical guess not fact.

The leather looks good and can be repaired. There are several methods so I will call our leather expert @Drygulch for repair instructions.

Thanks Billy for your advice. I did thought that the info saying it was a 30k stone was no doubt far fetched i suppose looking at the photo its hard to tell what type of stone this is
But thankyou for finding out the best way on repairing nick.. all tye best mark
