uhhh, I've always liked you, your posts and your contribution to TSD. I hope this doesn't change all that?
notched, “PAT. NOS. ON PACKAGE”, thick ring in the middle of the base plate: that´s 1948/49 I would say, your Aristocrat is from 1948 with left over parts (handle) from the 46/47 Aristocrat
My usual Aristocrat, born in 1946, just contributed to a stellar shaving experience. Paired with the Feather blade and some WARS cream, finished off with a nice Country Club Frozen Vetiver. Awesome.
Well it seems to have (more) three indicators of a 46-47. The lack of knurling on the upper band, non-notched (it appears it may have had wings and they were removed or left off/defect at factory) and the tray markings. I agree that between the 46-47 and 48-50 change over Gillette left no scrapes on the table (hell it may have been sold in Super Speed case). I have a 48 that has 46-47 tray markings but everything else on it says it's a 48-50 so it's somewhat common.
I do not believe it to have been an aristocrat. perhaps a regent. I have seen regents with the 46-47 handle and the notched heads.
I belive it was decided somewhere that it is the very rare 47-48 . In any case it is a fantastic razor
