So part of collecting anything for me is the logo of the product. I like seeing Gillette across the top, or maybe something like Blue Beard's Revenge/Dreadnought. So my question is, are there any razor companies that have interesting logos (or any logo) they place on the head of the razor, or the handle, to identify their product? Or razors that were used as promotional items? And on the subject, someone who does custom work? I mean I guess I could take it to Things Remembered. Thanks, Jacob
The Eclipse Red Ring and Ben Hur (later Apollo) Mikron both had spectacular logos. ^^^ This particular red ring has been replated in black chrome. Most Gillette razors have a Gillette logo underneath the head, on the bottom of the baseplate. You would probably find the most interesting Gillette to be the so-called rare 'signature' old type single ring razors.
Gillette made an old open comb tech ( I think that's what it is) that had the Nacet logo on it. I love that razor. Not the best pic, but....
I waffled on buying one several times going back a few years, because I thought $25-ish was too much to pay for one. Last one I watched went for close to $70. I keep an eye open, but I think the Nacet ship might have sailed for me.
That's my thoughts. I figure my only hope would be to have a *really* good friend in England or France who has a wild find of one. Unfortunately, that's probably not happening.
Oh yeah. Several razors I passed on when I first started out because I felt they were overpriced. The rhodium plated aristocrats were usually about $100 in excellent condition with cases. Fatboys were $25. Slim's were $15-20. Now, I would consider that a bargain.
Early on when I was trying a lot of razors, I sold off some really nice vintage Gillettes, figuring I could always just buy another one on the cheap. Bad move on my part. I'm not a huge vintage guy, but there are a few I wish I still had. For my interest level, the price for top end user grade/bottom end collectible stuff has pretty much driven me out of the market.
I bought a Charcoal Goods head instead of the actual DE89 head upon which it is based specifically because I wanted something with a logo. I thought it would give the razor more character. The jet black version is relatively new and it looks great. The Bluebeards Revenge also has their logo on their razor heads but I don't know anything about the company or the quality of their products.
Yeah, I did the same. I really regret selling these for $150: Especially considering that they fetch that much individually, if you can find them, and collectively they are probably worth $1000+ And these for $50:
The quality is fairly high. Most of their stuff is rebranded, but at least one of their razors is unique to Bluebeard. It's the one that looks like Maggard's V2 (I think?) At least superficially. The Cutlass.
