Can you believe it? This Theme Week is going to carry us into the month of June! Desert Island Week - you've seen the threads, "You're stranded on a desert island and can only have one razor, blade, soap/cream, etc. What would it be?" Pick ONE of each shave item. Use it and it alone, alllllll week! For all of those who reply to these types of "what's your favorite" threads, time to put your money where your mouth is. Can you do it? The challenge is before you!
I do it regularly. It just stems from laziness though. If there is something I don't like, I don't keep it. I don't mind using any of my gear for an extended period.
EverReady 1924 "shovel head" w/griestshaving "NEW" brass fat handle... Gem SS blades(from Walgreens) Corn Huskers Lotion(pre shave) TDS "Florida Water" scented shave soap Nivea sensitive postshave balm Clubman VI Bay Rum
P1 (1970) Super adjustable (I haven't used it before) with Astra blades Restored Ever-Ready 79 with TGN Synthetic knot I'm going to use the theme week to find the best setting for the adjustable, will start with 3 on Monday and then move up. I'll also decide if I really like the MWF. Should be a fun week.
I guess it's probably hot on a desert island. Better use lots of menthol. Nivea face wash prep TSD wheat cream TGN silvertip Weber Bulldog Personna labs Aqua Velva Axe ASB
This is difficult because I just got into the world of SE gems and am starting to really like them. But I may have to go: TSD ISZ PSB Merkur 34c Super-max TI TSD wheat cream AOS pure badger Thayer's WH Axe Chilled ASG
No way I can make one blade last a week, so I'll assume this island has three blades. I'll use some favourites: Merkur slant Feather blades FKD&G travel brush Proraso white Speick stick, grated into the Old Spice mug Alum block Clubman
Enjoying Desert Week as a voyeur. I'm afraid I'm too shavemiscuous to commit to one item. I can't even stick to one soap for the entire shave. #sickisme Carry on!
Okay, how many of you have cheated so far by taking a hot shower and/or using hot running water for your shave? After all, you ARE on a desert island
Well I have an order in for 3 new Semogues and some mdc. If they show up before Monday (hopefully) there is no way I will resist using them. I'll use my desert island slim all week. The rest is up in the air.
I was just about to go shave so I'm glad you reminded me. I'm fresh out of coconuts to make a lather bowl too so I guess I'll be face lathering.
I picked a desert island with hot running water. The theme week instructions didn't specify the desert island, so I picked the Desert Island Resort & Spa by Anantara. This luxury resort on Sir Bani Yas Island is just a few feet from a wildlife sanctuary. It features a spa with massage services and an infinity pool with panoramic Gulf views. The 5-star Desert Island Resort & Spa by Anantara has rooms with luxury bedding and parquet floors. Each room includes free Wi-Fi, satellite TV and a minibar. Some rooms feature sea views and terraces with direct access to the swimming pool. The restaurant Samak has candlelight dinners and international cuisine prepared on an open grill. The resort also has a lounge bar with panoramic sea views and a pool bar with lounge chairs and sun umbrellas. Desert Island Resort guests can play a game of tennis, or visit the Anantara Spa, which has a sauna and hot tub. The resort has a children’s club and 2 shops that sell local fabrics, clothing, and international reading material. Desert Island Resort & Spa by Anantara is adjacent to a lagoon. Nearby recreational activities include snorkeling, guided nature walks, and bird watching. Other activities available include scuba diving, deep sea fishing and sailing.
My "Desert Island" setup... Razor: '68 Slim Adjustable Blade: Red IP Brush: Ever-Ready restoration with 22mm TGN Super Badger knot Cream: Godrej Deluxe Lime Cold water rinse Alum block Cold water rinse Nivea Sensitive PSB I've picked a great combo (for me) but it will be a challenge to shave with this setup for the entire week as I do like to change things up quite often....
I wasn't going to participate in this because I just got a bunch of new stuff that I want to experiment with, but then one of those experiments yielded my desert island set up... I went by The Body Shop a couple of days ago on my birthday and ended up picking up a tub of the Maca Root shaving cream. I liked the cream pretty well, but I wasn't thrilled by the scent. The smell reminds me of creams and soaps often described as "masculine" but with a more subtle tone. It isn't sharp or overwhelming like many other masculine type scents, but it still wasn't what I was hoping for, so I decided to combine it with one of my other soaps. For my shave today I did a superlather of Ogallala Bay Rum, Limes, and Peppercorns and The Body Shop Maca Root shaving cream. The result was amazing. The scent was woody and fresh with just a hint of the sharpness that I usually get from the peppercorns aspect of the Ogallala, it was such a good smelling lather that it may actually be my new favorite scent. The combo produced a thick, creamy lather with very little work from my AoS Fine Badger brush and it applied smoothly and never dried or thinned out. I did a three pass wtg/atg/xtg shave using my Union Cutlery 5/8 and was rewarded with a DFS with zero nicks and only mild irritation (due largely to experimenting with different angles of attack). I ended with a cold water rinse and some AoS unscented A/S balm. My skin is soft, smooth, and moist, but there is some small amount of scruff on my right side jaw line and neck...I still have some difficulty getting my right side with a straight razor. This combination of products worked so well that I will have no difficulty using it exclusively for the rest of the week. Pre: Hot Shower and warm water splash Razor: Union Cutlery 5/8 full hollow Brush: The Art of Shaving Fine Badger Brush Soap: Superlather of Ogallala Bay Rum, Limes, and Peppercorns and The Body Shop Maca Root post: Cold water rinse and AoS Unscented A/S Balm
That's a good idea with the Maca Root cream. It smells a bit musty to me - kind of like a root I guess but it makes a nice lather.
Right now, I'm improvising and adapting so much of my shaving gear, it feels like I am stranded on a desert island..hmmm maybe the professor can come up with another paint brush or something..
Since the last two weeks and some weeks to go are pretty harsh, I opted for a deluxe island with hot water. I first did really think of an island with cold water (maybe in the course of the week I'd be able to build a fire to heat the water), but I haven't got the heart for it right now. Same goes for the equipment. If I were feeling better I'd use a Rolls, but now I need easy comfy shaves. So here is what I'll use this week: DVH boar brush Tabac soap Gillette flare tip rocket Max Herder blade Allegro blade sharpener (so I can shave all year on my island - you guys didn't think of that, did ya? ) Flower pot lather bowl I'll post a pic tomorrow.
