I have decided I want to make my own shaving soap. Something along the line of a hot process, hard puck that provides a thick, slick lather. I have not made soap before, so I would prefer a process that is simple yet will provide a nice product. Not interested in melt and pour. Too simple. Not interested in a shaving cream. I would prefer to make a hard puck from scratch. Does anyone have a fool-proof recipe? Or can you provide any advice regarding how I should approach this endeavour?
This is the only article I've come across that makes a somewhat hard soap. http://www.silverfoxcrafts.com/2015/04/part-3-silver-fox-shaving-soap-the-process/ I also have a couple bookmarked for soft soaps.
I suppose there will be a dummy book out on that, or something similar, in the not-too-distant future.
Hot process: 50% Stearic Acid 30% Beef Tallow 15% Coconut oil 5% Castor oil Or 52% Stearic Acid 48% Coconut oil At trace add 10% of the ingredient weight as glycerine 60% KOH 40% NaOH http://thesoapcalculator.com/ http://soapcalc.net/calc/soapcalcwp.asp I make 100 gms at a time which lasts a very long time. I have very accurate [gm] scales and work with the cooking in a water bath.
You're welcome. If you try it let me know. @maltedmilk helped me initially so welcome to the rabbit hole.
