I am referring specifically to my Schick Type G razor. I recently started stropping the razor...and by this I mean running the razor on my jeans in a stropping motion. I do this either pre or post shave. No, I don't remove the blade to strop. Yes, the blade remains in the razor...and yes, I only strop it in one direction. I notice after having done this for a while now that it extends the life of the blade by many shaves. How many you may ask? Well, if I wasn't so darn lazy I would do a more precise comparison and be able to give you a good answer. Just wondering if anyone else out there strops their Schicks?
Not exactly but I always give it a couple wipes on the towel in a semi stropping motion... just want to clean it off.
Stropping to be effective must be done on both sides of the blade. Besides even if possible, stropping a Schick injector seems to me to be overkill and certainly was never recommended by Schick. But if it works for you, do it. It would not work for me.
All I've ever accomplished by stropping any modern multi-faceted stainless steel blade was to turn a sharp blade into a dull one. --Bob
I sometimes strop on my arm just to get the water off of it, I also blow on it to remove water. Stropping it on jeans could work though, particularly since those blades are thicker and more like a straight edge.
I did some denim stopping with carts and it seemed to extend the blade life and make for a smoother shave.
