It´s french ivory (have a look at the Ad), but I don´t know, what french ivory is. For me it´s ivory looking plastic. I´ve a elephant evory case for a Tuckaway, and the weight is very heavy. The case from the tube bell Aristocrat has not so a high weight.
What Dave wanted was a 1917 Old Type. It was his grandfather's birth year razor. He has already found that razor so I doubt he would be interested.
Yes I did. I really didn't expect to win it. I wasn't sure if these sold in gold or if that one was originally silver and was brassed.
The only other one I have seen is Achim's, and it is either silver or chrome plated. Are you giving any thought about re-plating it?
I had won just the razor about a month or two ago. It is silver with brassing wear. I won't re-plate. Maybe Dave wants to buy my other if this one is decent enough.
replating would be a shame in my opinion. I would never modify a rare razor like that. Patina can look very good IMHO
Here is the one I have now. I need to polish it because there is heavy black tarnish under the head. the handle has a lot of brassing but its a pretty rare razor.
I disagree with the re-plating of TTO razors because it just makes the outside look nice when the inner workings are probably all gunked up, but a three-piece is a different story, IMHO. I would consider it to be an acceptable restoration.
A replated razor would be no good as a collector, but they do look nice if you just want a nice looking shaver.
I disagree. Plenty of car collectors pay big bucks for restored classic cars. And I'd like to add that the reason you won that auction was because I don't like beat to Hell razors -- regardless of how rare, and I am definitely a collector.
