Just curious... Do any of you have any experience with the Dorco/Pace DN52 which appears to be a Gem-style SE blade?

40 cents a blade and free shipping isn't bad. I wonder if they are scraper grade or shaver grade blades.

I don't know that Dorco makes any non-shaver grade blades. It wouldn't make much financial sense. shaver grade would work fine for scraping. I think the 'scraper grade' just came about as fewer and fewer people used SE razors, but there were still a lot of people that needed scrapers. So they started making blades just good enough for scrapers by removing the extra grinding step.

They are definitely marketed as shaving blades.

Dorco does make SE shaving blades. I seem to recall an review from over at that other site that said they were horrible to shave with. I've never tried them myself.

I'm now seeing the same. Of course, this is after I plunked down $2.14 for a pack of 5. I guess I know what I'm doing one morning during MayHEM. :)

But, didn't you know - it's not the blade, it's the technique! :yoda

Scraping paint off the back porch? ;)
A box cutter is still a box cutter regardless of technique. ;)

Complete garbage. I could prolly shave with a good paint scraper blade. These will not scrape paint. I would not buy these to put in a box cutter even. I tried one a few weeks ago. Threw them all out.

If the blade is sharp enough that is correct.

Might actually be the issue with many 'SE Blades'. Who's writing the reviews?

    Indeed.

You've obviously been places. Potentially the most gangster thing I've ever read on a shaving forum.

Nobody's quoted Jim Croce? (always wondered what kind of razor you'd keep in your shoe)

Well the South side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
    You better just beware
Of a man named Leroy Brown

    Now Leroy more than trouble
You see he stand 'bout six foot four
All the downtown ladies call him "Treetop Lover"
All the men just call him "Sir"

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

    Now Leroy he a gambler
And he like his fancy clothes
And he like to wave his diamond rings
    In front of everybody's nose
    He got a custom Continental
    He got an Eldorado too
He got a thirty two gun in his pocket for fun
He got a razor in his shoe

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Now Friday 'bout a week ago
    Leroy shootin' dice
And at the edge of the bar
    Sat a girl named Doris
And oo that girl looked nice
Well he cast his eyes upon her
    And the trouble soon began
And Leroy Brown learned a lesson
'Bout messin' with the wife of a jealous man

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Well the two men took to fighting
And when they pulled them off the floor
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle
With a couple of pieces gone

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
    Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

And it's bad, bad Leroy Brown

    Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

I just want women to call me Maurice, as I speak of the pompetus of love.

Jim Croce comes up on the thirty day thread periodically. Mostly when someone appears to have done something ill-advised.

So, are you a joker, a smoker, a midnight toker? I'll advised? So, someone does something bad, and you quote Time in a Bottle? :)

Depends on what they did was bad!

I don't use the original SE razors, and profess no expertise here specifically. Your tag got me to look.

The OP is trying to sort through info on the Internet. I've looked at SE blade writeups, and the wildly different accounts versus the relative low number of actual choices leads me to believe that technique must play a significant role in SE. I generally defer to guys like @Billyfergie and @Bird Lives on matters like this, and though we're only newly acquainted, I think @wchnu has written down lots of good stuff about SE. Helping new guys with SE isn't my thing, beyond the generals of watch your angles and pressure. I've never held a real SE razor in my hand, nor get the abiding desire. After a thorough DE introduction to traditional wet shaves, I rocked out on Schick G and some E until it was automatic, and then did the whole open blade thing.

Doesn't that depend on how determined the shaver is, and/or beard density? ;)
