So, was it expensive to acquire the material? How do you strip off old plating? Don't worry, I'm not going into the business. I'm just curious how it works.
Interesting to see Super Adjustable's partially disassembled. I have read more than once that these razors aren't repairable. Can we assume you would challenge that premise? And if you'll allow a second question... Do you do restoration work for hire?
I have another picture with the pieces separated, but every time I try to upload it say the picture is too big. They look the same size to me. My wife took both pictures. Same angle, same distance. Well, I`ll keep trying, wish me luck. Regards, Bill
SA's are repairable alright, pretty much the same approach as repairing Slims. I will certainly consider hiring myself out (LOL!),after I have got the backlog that I call my 'to do' boxes down!.
It all depends on what you already have lying around,if you have all the things to polish metal to a mirrored finish, you are halfway there.I have been buying bits here and there for about a year,to keep the costs down. And I remove the old plating with a heated chemical bath
DrTerror your meticulous nature really shines and is reflected in your work. We appreciate it, looking forward to seeing your next project.
This one was sent to me for the insides clean-up'ed and properly lubed....Before... After... All rust removed, from the insides, and outsides,TTO knob tightened up (at the crimp),gently hand polished,as the plating was a bit thin in places, and tomorrow I will lube, and paint in the numbers...
You must have surgeons hands to paint numbers that small, please post pics ounce your done look forward to the finished product. Thanks for keeping these great razors alive DrTerror!
Quality work, DrT, your reputation grows daily. If only certain other supposedly reputable restoration establishments shared your ethics and performed anywhere near your standards of workmanship. Regards, Chris
