I had a TGN 24 mm 3 Band Synthetic that I was testing in some temporary handles and I saw an Ever Ready C40 in the box of stuff. So one thing led to another and ...
Very nice! I love the black collar surrounding the knot! I'm working on the exact same brush. And performed a similar ballast addition. I filled the base about 1/2 full of epoxy and then placed a 1/2 in nut on top and let it kinda sink in. The next day the bottom of the brush had a protruding dimple in it. Now the brush is kinda like a Weeble! I'm assuming that the epoxy shrunk and distorted the base somehow. It's a strange distortion if so. Anyway, beautiful job!
where could I find such handles that I would then send to , say ,you(?) for restoring/reknotting? And that is freaking gorgeous, btw.
The knot is familiar but the handle is something else Nice colour contrast and the letters below give a character Congratulations !
Epoxy if used in large amounts generates heat as it cures so it distorts the plastic. Two routes to correct. 1. Use a glue internally that does not heat cure to set the ballast (not the knot - use epoxy for it). Single tube glues like E6000 work well. It takes 24 hours for them to cure, but since you are setting the ballast only, that is not an issue. 2. If you still want to use epoxy, place the handle in a small bowl of water large enough to get the handle 2/3 submerged with the hole exposed of course. The water will act as a heat sink and keep the plastic cool while the epoxy drys. This is my least preferred method since water can cause other issues.
Today's shave was the first shave with the upgraded C40 brush. Being filled with metal and epoxy/glue the C40 is now very solid with plenty of heft. The TGN synthetic 24 mm is still one of the very best values on the market. It worked up more than enough lather for a head shave and two face passes with more than enough extra to spare.
I agree with you about how good the TGN synthetic knots are, the more I use them the more impressed I am.
The TGN Synthetic in this setup almost matches the performance of the FS Pur-Tech and the Muhle V2 STF. Great Knot with soft tips and good backbone due to its density.
Hey Gary-I just picked up this Ever Ready on ebay. It will be going to you for reincarnation. I am not sure exactly which one it is yet. I'll be in touch. Thanks for the help and suggestions. Bob
