Got my head shave done but ended up switching the 1914 out for the 1912. That's the winner out of the three for me. The 1914 had trouble keeping the blade from popping out of place and the shorter handle was not jiving with me. But here I am now with a BBS head and no mishaps whatsever. Gear used: 24mm WD black/white synthetic brush, Ingram shaving cream and Nivea Sensitive aftershave balm.
..that's nature's way of telling you there's something wrong... Never happened with my 1914s. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Yes. It might be that the spring is not holding the blade correctly. I will check when I get home tonight. I will find a fix for that. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Face shave again today. Went for a three pass plus clean up with the 1912 w/ stainless steel again, my favorite combo. No problem. Clean as a whistle, BBS and enjoyed every second of it.
@PLAla Thursday morning, I'll be getting the razors out to you. That'll give me time for one last head shave with them, a cleaning and sterilize. I'll give you a PM with the tracking number and all that once I send it out on Thursday.
The razors have arrived!! Now, how do you tell them apart? I think I know which is the 1912 based on the decorative handle. Not sure about the others.
Start with the 1912 and blade of your choice. Try both blades in the razor. Then you will get a feeling of your blade. Then move on to the other razors using each blade. Most of all have fun. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Thanks, Tom! I have a GEM 1912 and am interested to see how the Ever Ready compares. I remember you saying they are very similar if not identical, but I'll still give it a whirl. Then on to the others. The carbon blades need to be removed and dried between shaves, right?
Yes for sure. I add a bit of baby oil or mineral oil to them for added protection. Not necessary by any means though. Just dry really good. Some people give a bath in alcohol. Single Malt I believe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
SOTD May 27, 2017 Blade: GEM carbon Razor: Ever Ready 1912 Brush: Omega Hi synthetic Lather: TSD Barber Shoppe Post: Witch hazel, TSD Iced Barber Shoppe aftershave WTG, touch-up Terrific shave with the 1912 and a carbon blade. Smooth, comfortable, efficient, etc. Nothing bad at all. Little to no pressure and let it ride over good lather and you're set. Thanks to Tom for the opportunity to try these! I'll use the 1912 once again before moving on to the others. But the first run was terrific.
Hm.. Why are the Ever-Ready the "big three", and not include, say, a GEM razor? (Just curious. I have no comparison)
