FEB 2015 30 Day Rule/30 Day Focus Pic and Discussion Thread

Pics and discussion of a for those doing a 30 DAY RULE or 30 DAY FOCUS in Febtuary 2015...here we go! Please read the provided link to @GDCarrington and his guidelines. Pics make these threads work.

Direct chatter is highly encouraged, I encourage all to quote posts when in discussion so we can all follow along.

I hope everyone learns a few things, makes a few friends and has a great time. See SOTD if you want an example of how this thread might work.

We on TSD call it SOTD or SoS. It is central to DE shaving on TSD. Feel free to jump in and post pics there too. They love pics. Coming up with unique interesting pics in February is quite possibly another fun time!

Great! I am going to be doing a "Focused February" around my Dad's Schick injector and my Plisson. I am new to injectors and will be learning synthetic brushes as well. I look forward to seeing your updates!

 

I am planning a "Focused February" around finding the right blade for me in the Mongoose.

Chris, thanks for putting it together again.

I really learned a great deal by following the 30 day rule for January. It allowed me to really dial in the razor. Looking forward to the less rigid 30 day Focus in February. With a very solid baseline I should be in a better position to evaluate the different blades available for the Mongoose. I already have samples of some of the blades and just ordered samples of the other 2 available blades. By the end of the Focus February I will have tried all 6 blades available for the Goose.

 

Well, as you know I'm setting up to do what I've been calling "blade trials" for February with the only variable being blades. I do believe that counts as a Focus so I'll be joining you here too. I start Saturday, actually, the 31st and will go through until March 1st assuming all of the blades last 3 shaves. If I learn as much about blades and get them sorted out it will be as valuable as January.

OK, I'm in. I am going to focus on one razor for the month. Its a Superspeed Blacktip. I need to clean it up this weekend, and will grab some pictures. Everything else is open to changes.

I'm going to move to my Schick Injector I1, with Chinese blades, and my cheap Wilkinson Sword boar brush. Proraso green is the cream, and variable aftershaves, including a purchase of a mentholated one....any suggestions? (As I am in Canada, Alcohol based product cannot cross the border, I believe)

 

The only constant I want to focus on is a new brush is that acceptable? I think I'll try and and get a feel for the Omega 49 I'm waiting on and keep the VDH luxury soap.

 

Perfectly acceptable according to the rules of a Focus by GDCarrington. He even cites an example of a focus being using one specific brush while changing soaps and everything else. No problem at all.

 

I'm in. Going to focus on my 1966 Slim Adjustable. Although I achieve very good shaves with it, I am not as comfortable with it as my Merkur 34C which I used for my initial 30 day Rule. Time to fix that....

 

I was visited by a couple young men yesterday. They rode up on their bikes while I was tinkering outside and asked if I knew about face lathering. They convinced me to give it a go in February.

 

Exactly. I have a Focus that more than likely will exceed 30 days and the only absolute constant is the blade.

I am going to focus on trying different blades in the Weber PH. The Weber is hands down my easiest shaving razor and if I recall correctly, it likes almost every blade. I have a Derby blade, Ladas blade, Gillette 7 o'clock super stainless, Shark and Wilkinson Sword that ought to take me through the month. My soap will be the TSD Grey Vetiver type. I will rotate my Omega, Vie-Long and Body Shop synthetic brushes.

I'm in. Glad I'm finally in a spot to take on a 30 day with what I have to work with. Pending no unexpected arrival from Russia, it will be the same setup I've used for the last week or two. Can't wait to join in!

 

I'm in with my Feather Artist Club razor! My goal is to improve my skills with it so that I can achieve consistently close and comfortable shaves.
