That looks to be an all metal version made far enough back that the QC department actually had some say about what was allowed to go out the door. You've got a super excellent shaver there. I'd wash it up and use it. I'll wager you'll be completely floored as to the shave you'll get. Congrats!!
Yeah, they hold a flea market too outside. Now that it is getting warm more vendors are showing up with things they acquired over the winter months.
Excellent looking German pre-unification Progress (West Germany). Well done! Before 1990 looks like it was made in the 1960s perhaps?
I bow to your experience Oh the box has 500 on the bottom. I see most progress razors are 510 or 570 on them.
There are actually at least four things that helps date your razor; A) The separators between the number are dots and not lines as on later versions, B) The red numbers indicates a vintage item, C) The ivory colored case (which is a great addition to this razor), and D) Of course "West Germany" So, the big question is then how old is it? Unfortunately there is no way to give it an exact production year but since it has colored numbers and the ivory case we can at least date it to between 1978 to 1985 (a date range that has been confirmed by Merkur). I don't know of a way to get it closer than that. Estimated value: - Without case and in good condition: $40-55 - With case and in good condition: $60-80 *Either price range can fluctuate up and down based on the day and the phase of the moon Nice find!
