I think i made one heck of a great find this afternoon!!! A Gem Micromatic Clog Pruf in the case with all the original goodies in mint condition! Hope you like...and I'm hoping Dave, the Possum or someone else can shed some light on those reversible SE blades. Now if this doesn't bring the bunny out of hiding...... VIVA la REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice score. The reversable blades only work in Micromatics. Get yourself some new s/e blades and enjoy what I consider to be the most under rated razor on the planet. The open comb is aggressive but fullfilling.
Pretty neat. Thanks. I think I'll try mine this morning because I've had awful shaves with it in the past and didn't know about holding it straight on the face like the directions show...
Yep, the older Gems and the micromatics you hold it flat against the face. They don't get tilted like a DE.
Thats funny...I've used the older Gem OC's with great results in the past. This Micromatic was the only problem razor I had. I'll find out in an hour or so after I get off work.
I have had some ever-ready ones that work better with a slight angle, but in general they are used much flatter than DE razors. To clarify some confusing terminology: the older Gem open combs do exist, but they are rare (I only know of four members that own one). Within the Micromatics, there is an open comb model that you see fairly often. On an open comb the teeth each stick out and are not connected in any way once they leave the razor head. However, the normal gems (and most micromatics) have what is called a closed comb. There are distinct teeth; however, they are all still connected with some form of safety bar. The clog pruf shown above is a closed comb model.
WOW!!!!What a great find my friend!!!Thats a beautyHope you enjoy your shaves with it and.... VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the info. Whichever one I have still sucks. I got halfways through before I pulled the blade and put it in a 1912 Gem baton handle to save the shave. I love the looks of those Micromatics but just can't get it...
I think this one may not be used. I have another silver clog pruf that is in the rotation and is great for me. What would be the best way to shine it up since the luster has dulled over the yrs?
Wow! Now that is what I'd call a complete set! This is the first I've seen in a hard case. Nice find.
I would start with a lint free polishing type cloth and not use any chemicals at first. Honestly, I don't know about the gem gold finish... On the gillettes you had to be careful not to ruin the protective lacquer. Dave, are you watching? And I agree with it being a nice set and a great find. Hmmm.. I think I have a gold colored one around... I wonder if I ever tried to polish it up.... hmmmm
CVS blades. I don't bleed, it just hardly cuts any hair the way I hold it, I guess. Too many other razors out there for me to keep trying to make this one work.
very nice set. NOS MM sets are always cool looking. scrubbing bubbles and toothpaste should get it clean.
Never tried CVS blades. We don't have them in Australia.I have found Micromatics to be the ultimate stubble killer, especially with a few day's growth after a fishing trip..No other safety razor even comes close.
I love the "guiding eye" concept. I hadn't noticed that before. Now I have to dig out my MM to see if they have a "Guiding Eye" edit: just the one that looks like yours... the others don't have a magical, mystical all seeing eye to keep the blade at the optimum angle... *sigh*:happy102
Hey Special K and Gillette_Man, how about putting some scans of your instructions up in this thread? http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8827
Gillette toyed with the idea for the new Fusion. They even developed some art work. They didn't use it in the end though. Sorry, couldn't resist!
