Hi guys/gals just wondering what you would all prefer if given a choice. Would it be better to purchase the gold gillette executive fatboy (razor only) or a silver gillette fatboy in a nice case if both razors are similar condition and are the same price.
If it was for daily use, the Fatboy. If it was for occasional use, and to look at, the executive. The gold plating on the executive will wear, fairly fast.
You want the FB. I need the Executive If it were me, I'd take the Executive and run it if it is shave ready. They seem to be a little more scarce. I've been looking for one but don't want to pay going rate on the bay. A FB with a great case can be had for $75, or less. A good Executive runs $100 or more no case. If you can get the E for FB price, take the E... Definitely the E. If you fall in love with it, Replate it down the line. Shoot, I just lost a bid on a grubby Executive for $50, and it needed a fresh coat of gold. Or, you could get them both, turn a small profit in the E and reduce the price of the FB. PM with details on the Executive, if you go this route. Hopefully, it's a D1.
I will add, that they are basically the same razors, except for the plating and knurling on the handle. I like the gold look of the Executive, but not how easily the gold wears off. I have a few Executives, that I got for around $20-$30 range, but a couple need plating, and gold plating is expensive. If you must get the Executive for occasional use, and have a nice finish on it, then spend a little extra up front, and get one in very good original shape. If you need an Executive for daily use, just buy a mechanically sound ugly one, and have it replated. The replated ones look phenomenal.
I've got two '58's, a Fat Boy and an Executive, both of which have been replated and are perfect. I use them both. I agree, get both. HERM
It's a preference thing. I prefer silver because gold wears off. I also don't collect razors, so anything I get is going to be for using on a regular basis. Either way, enjoy whichever one you get. Sent via mobile - Chris
Just got this: Around $160 here in England. This will be gazed at and fondled, I have a FB for shaving and it's one of my favourites.
