Hey, I am curious about something, at my local antique store they have a Gillette super speed, in the original plastic case, for 20.00, is that a good deal?
I’d talk them down a little if you can. $20 to me is at the top of my price range and for it would have to be in awesome condition.. I’m always more comfy at the $10-$15 mark.. lol but I’m am cheap.
The price depends on the condition of the razor and case. If the razor is in good shape and the case is not cracked, $20 is good.
Don't forget. Local stores don't charge shipping fees like online auctions. I tend to pay a wee bit extra for something I can see up close, work the mechanism, and check for an even gap between the safety bar and the door.
Also, the case may be for the _later_ model. I've seen a number (and bought one) of ' superspeed in case'. Many are, for example, a 40's SS in a Flare Tip case - obviously the owner put the old razor in the new case and put the case away "just in case". Pun somewhat intended.
For the shops I frequent, $20 is about the going rate for any DE in good condition. Goes for injectors also. I really do not like buying razors, particularly one piece from the auction sites.
Interesting, most of my razors have come from eBay with the rest either being PIFs or trades. I think the most I've paid for one was $21, including shipping, and that was an English Flat-Bottom Tech. Most of the rest were under $10. Admittedly, I tend toward user-grade and am not put off by ones which need a good cleaning.
If the clear styrene lid has no crazing or fogging, and top and bottom are intact with no damage, some would say an excellent case is worth $20 by itself. Apart from finish issues or old grime, about the only thing that's sometimes wrong with old TTOs is "the drop," which is easily fixed. Pics, my boy, pics!
I am with the crowd, let’s see it. Even if you have to go back to give it a once over and take pics. I have done that while doing research on a razor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
