My Gillette Fatboy back from being finished with DuraCoat. (Sorry for bad picture all I have is an old camera phone)
No, I painted the numbers as soon as I got it (about 30 minutes before posting the thread). I have to wait for the paint to cure on those. I'm really curious to find out if the self lubricating properties make glide better while shaving.
Looks great! I think I'm going to want to get a Fatboy re-done in the near future, and yours is quite an inspiration. I'm looking forward to hearing how it shaves.
OK...I couldn't wait just got done with my first shave. On the first pass I did half my face with the coated Fatboy and half with a factory plated Fatboy. I used the same blade so that would not be a factor in smoothness or glide. It seem to be gliding better with the coated one but was not amazingly different. There was no soap scum left on the razor after the shave, when rinsing the razors there was a big difference. The shave was a 3 pass DFS, Both Fatboy set to 5. I use to shave with all my Adjustable razor set on the highest setting. I now have found I can get just as close a shave on 5 as on 9 and at the end the Alum block is pleased.
I was doing some snooping around and there is a thing called ASTM standard D522 which says these coatings can withstand 160 lbs / inch impact with no plating loss. Should be plenty strong enough and durable too.
