Some of you may have followed the earlier discussion on identifying a Gillette Travel Set 1921 Standard Combination Set 00 G that I picked up at an antique store.
    Here is the before:

It is gold plated and so I followed the advice that was provided and only used Dawn soap, a soft toothbrush and a cotton cloth for polishing. And lots and lots of elbow grease and TLC. I also cleaned out the inside of the case with a toothbrush and reconditioned the leather case with neutral polish. Its almost 100 years old. I'd say it looks pretty good for its age!
    Here is the after:

    That is super cool!

It is amazing how nicely some of these old finds can polish up.

You did a great job! It's beautiful. Do you plan to use it as a travel set?

I love how these can clean up. Back in August I had a similar experience on one I found in the wild. I realized today the razor in my set has a 1916 date code...great job

Great job, however from the before and after photos it looks like brass.

I think this will be more of a display set...one for the museum. Now I just have to build the museum. ;)

Fantastic. So how does gold darken so uniformly like that?
