Enclosed are numerous pics of how I lather my glycerin soaps. Note that I do create lather directly on the face a majority of the time as I find it to be quicker, but when I'm going for luxury/style points....I do it right with a scuttle and heavy bowl. Some find lathering in a bowl easier or more enjoyable. Experimentation is encouraged!

    Equipment Used:

    SR 3124
Mama Bear TJs Trade Wind SS
    Thick Bowl
    Large Scuttle
    Hot water

Scuttle in sink with brush, getting drenched in hot water:

Bowl, Scuttle, Brush ready for action (one slight shake of brush to remove excess water):

    Hitting the soap with brush:

I always do a thorough job of getting the soap into the brush, making sure to get soap all throughout it. I grind and mash the brush into the soap quite a bit and stop when the lather begins flowing over the tub....usually end up with something like this:

Here's a shot of the brush after loading process:

Now I transfer to the bowl to begin working up the lather (first shot):

More water added, more swirling, pumping of the brush:

Even more water added, more swirling, more pumping of the brush:

And still more swirling, pumping, etc:

    Lather, different angle:

When satisfied with the state of lather (slipperiness, thickness), you can begin working on your face. At this point, however, I transfer all lather to the scuttle where it can be kept warm:

Slathered all over hand to show depth:

Awesome pics Joe! That's some impressive lather.

How's the menthol content on MamaBear's Trade Wind soap? Nice and cooling?

Thanks Buddy :D The Trade Wind SS contains just the right amount of natural peppermint EO, and provides a solid cooling effect....without being overbearing.

    Recommendation: Strong Buy :) ;)

I just go mug to face.

    Works for me.

Maybe I should mess a round with this way?

    Nice Shots!

Great photos and demonstration! I usually work up later in a deep mug while in the shower. I use a lush badger hair brush and I get lather as you show in your shots. You have stirred a interest in trying a scuttle for when I'm not in the shower.

i ordered a scuttle a few days ago and know it will take about a month to get it so I try not to think about it. After looking at these photos, all I can think about is that scuttle and how I can't wait to get it!

    Joe,

Rather than keeping your lather in the scuttle, try re-loading the brush between passes and setting it in the scuttle. That should help eliminate the heat of the scuttle from breaking down your lather, and still give you a nice lather on the next go-round.

the Deluxe (pinkish-colored)? That is a very good (& cheap) shave soap. They make the conk soaps as well.

    soap

How would you compare Col Conks Glycerin soap too van der Hagn glycerin soap?
beside price I haven't use either yet

    Same, other then the Scent.

    VDH makes Col Conk. :D

Van der Hagen makes three soaps:

    1) Glycerin -> very similar to a colonel conk punk, such as Amber
    2) Deluxe -> similar to colonel conk bay rum, but with extra emollients
    3) Select -> similar to williams mug soap

I have only tried the Deluxe, and it is as-good if not better than all the colonel conk soaps. But, the scent is only decent. Not exciting, but a lilac-barbershop type smell.
