Does anyone know for a fact if the gold on the vintage Gillettes are indeed gold or is it something else? I tried to search the forum for it and couldn't find the answer. Google yielded people talking about the gold plating but nothing directly says whether or not it is gold. Do we know definitively it is or isn't? Thanks!
As far as I've read ... the Good Wills are gold washed (a thin coat of gold and then lacquered. I higher end Gillettes are actually plated properly (Tuck Aways, Executives and etc.). That all said it was what I've read, but no real documentation.
Some of the old magazine ads say 14k, some just say gold plated, they all had lacquer that yellows with age.
