Happy Wednesday From Florida! It looks like the Old Grab Bag is dead. So, let's start a new one! I will get it started and also keep track of where it is, where it was, and where it shall be. Now, not to offend any of our international brethren, but I have shipped enough stuff internationally to know that often times the mail is slow and expensive, so let me just say up front that the box is going to stay in the U.S. for now. If we have enough interest and participation, one day the box will need thinned out and at that point we can split part of the box off and start an international leg. So here is the plan: 1) Post your interest in this thread. 2) Send me a PM with your name, address and phone number along with an off-site email address. 3) As soon as there are about 15 people on the list, I will do my best to put the list in order from East to West. That way the box will move faster instead of having to crisscross the country. 4) I will round up shave stuff, post a picture of the stuff and put it in the correct size flat rate USPS box and fire it off to the first person on the list. 5) As soon as you get the box, post a picture of the contents and also a picture of what you are putting in the box. 6) Send the box to the next person on the list. 7) Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the box has reached the last person. 8) The last person will return the box to me and we will organize another round. Here a few things to keep in mind: 1) When putting stuff in the box, put it in a baggie labeled with your name, date, and the contents of the baggie. This is important because things spill, and it will be nice to know how long something has been in the box. 2) Put whatever shave related item in the box, but please, let's not junk the box up. If something is so worn out / used up / broken / not usable more than once, or restorable it probably does not belong in the box. However, re-knottable brush handles, restorable straights, and other such items are not junk. Just don't treat the box like a junk pile. If a container has usable product, but the container is broken / leaking, please put it in another container and apply the appropriate label. 3) Most of us have access to Williams and VDH. These are fine products, but they take up space, so let's try to not fill the box up with multiple instances of these products. One of each in the box at a time is sufficient. One last thing: If you are going to be overly concerned about the cost of shipping vs. value of what you can take out of the box, this game is probably not for you. If you feel you need to pull $11.00 worth of stuff out of the box before you pay $11.00 to ship it off, you are probably going to be disappointed. Some people are not going to have $11.00 worth of stuff to put in the box to replace what they take out of the box, so please, let's not get hung up on value. Look at as one big PIF, with benefits! And.....GO!
I've got a storage cabinet of my favorites that i'd love to pass along and have a go at other peoples discards or favorites. In!
UPDATE Okay Ya'll, we have 13 players including me. I have picked up a medium and a large flat rate box and will pack it up this weekend and ship on Monday. We still have room for a few more if interested, Sunday at noon will be the cut off date for the first round. Regan - I have not included you because the shipping to Canada for a flat rate box is around $30.00 one way, and will be $30.00 to send it back out. However, if we can generate enough Canadian interest, and ya'll are up to the extra postage to get it back to me in Florida, we could send the box on a Trans-Canadian trip back east from Alaska when Joe (excalibur5) is done with his turn. I can only imagine the goodies that Brad (thecopperhat) and Jeff (crackstar) could drop in the box! As of now, here is the proposed shipping order from east to west: stingraysrock. (FL) dashmaverick. (MD) Ocharlas. (NY) Kiltedshaver. (TN) Iamthejody. (MS) JoeMal. (IL) AnB_Daddy. (IL) Dslazar9. (IL) Hank. (IA) Freebird. (OK) Xezmer. (TX) Billr. (WA) excalibur5. (AK) Tony (AnB_Daddy) and Danny (Dslazar9) - you two can probably meet for a box hand off if you so choose. Tony (Freebird) if Lee (Hoglahoo) wants to get involved, Ya'll can do a hand off too. PanChango (Dale) I have dropped you per your request. If you change your mind, you will fall between dashmaverick (Anthony) and Ocharlas (Olivier.) I will get some pictures up of the box as I am packing it. BOX! BOX! BOX! GOOOOOOOOO BOX!
Awesome! This should be fun. But I'm telling y'all now.. I ain't putting my British No. 15 Aristocrat in the box! :happy102
Pip Pip, Cherry O' and all that stuff. Was there a #9? If so, as it any good? 9 is a magic number yanno. Mathematical magic that is.
One other thought. Maybe it would be fun to put something small in the box from each stop it makes (postcard, etc) just for the fun of it? After a couple rounds that could be kind of fun to see the places the box has been. As far as shipping into Canada, I'm willing but my wife might kill me with the shipping fee.. Any thoughts on that?
