Well, I'm 57 and it's time to learn. Have been using a handed down Gillette double edge for many years but I have a real bug to learn a straight razor. Greetings. Jim
Welcome @Jimhall504. Glad you joined us! Your avatar photo - a Gillette Slim? Good hardware. Don't put it away yet. When you start using that straight razor the DE is like training wheels. Straight on the cheeks in a downward pass & finish with your familiar gear. Next shave a little more with the straight, less with the DE. If you are like most folks thirty shaves later you'll be quite comfortable using the SR most everywhere on you face & neck. By 60 shaves you may not need the DE at all. By the time you've reached 100 shaves you'll be teaching others. This is your thread and a great place to ask any questions you may have. All you answers will be right here for easy future reference. Welcome @Jimhall504 , from Texas. Soooo, you want to learn how to use a straight razor? Start reading g some threads in the "Straight Razor" section. Then, ask whatever questions you have. I started Straight Razor shaving exclusively, approx a year ago, and haven't looked back.
A new recruit for the Dark Side. I started straight razor shaving two years ago. The people here are very supportive of new straight shavers so do not hesitate to ask for advice or help. Hi from Seoul, nice to meet you.
Thank you all for the warm welcome and advice. I am sure I will have many questions. I will do some reading here first. I have an old Genco Old Dutch I hope to restore some day. The scales are very nice, the blade not so much. In the meantime I am shopping for a good starter and reading and watching videos on all the beard prep. Thanks again. Jim
