So I'm growing a moustache. For those who have grown one or currently employ one on their upper lip, 1. How do you decide the initial growth area? Like I can't decide whether to just let it grow all over and then when it's long shave it back? 2. How do you keep stuff out of it? Like when blowing your nose. I keep getting yuckies in my hair. 3. Do you trim the hairs that are close to the upper lip so they don't hang over and get into your mouth with a razor or scissors? 4. Why isn't there a manual for this stuff? Lol
1. I like to keep it between my upper lip and my nose. 2. Be a gentleman... carry a handkerchief. 3. I use a beard trimmer and a comb. Comb it down and get a straight cut across when I smile slightly to make my upper lip straight. 4. It's something you must acquire on your own with experience of decades of life. (actually there are tons of videos on YouTube) Oh... also... ics:
I usually have kleenex with me but it's just weird getting junk in it I hadn't checked you tube yet I'll look there... But thank you. I don't have many guys in my life with facial hair. A bunch of my friends did Movember but have all wussed out. I grew mine and then messed it up and had to shave it and start it over. Then my upper lip looked weird. Had to grow it back. I'm in it for the long haul though.
Cool... I like having a moustache. I decided in November that I wanted it to be more full and have let it grow somewhat. I'm starting to get that handlebar look to it and now I'm wondering if I might need to invest in some wax for it to keep the shape. I have to have a goatee (yeah we all know what I use to keep that tame) too because my chin is sort of round and a little facial hair covers up the weak looking chin. I have often considered shaving off the goatee, but SWMBO insists I keep it. It would be cool to see you post your progress here as you grow it... (hint hint)
BTW, I use a Wahl Peanut trimmer with a guard to keep the length of my goatee and 'stache in line. Here's a link to where I got it.
I may post updates here each week. I'm hoping for a slight Handlebar moustache nothing crazy but just a slight twist at the ends.
Cool I check it out! I already purchased some Clubman moustache wax with a Comb and some little scissors.
I keep a circle beard, not a mustache per say, but here's my take: 1. How do you decide the initial growth area? Like I can't decide whether to just let it grow all over and then when it's long shave it back? Completely depends on your growth patterns. I have one of those growth patterns that makes the decision for me. I would recommend letting it grow out completely while keeping the lower portions trimmed just above or just below the lip line. 2. How do you keep stuff out of it? Like when blowing your nose. I keep getting yuckies in my hair. You don't really. You come to grips with the fact that it will catch stuff, and eventually you learn to carry a handkerchief, and you adjust the way you eat and drink to minimize it. 3. Do you trim the hairs that are close to the upper lip so they don't hang over and get into your mouth with a razor or scissors? I do. You have a decision to make. Will you trim, will you wax, or will you Wilford (as in Wilford Brimley)? Some just let it grow out and wax it into shape above the lip. Others just go with it... 4. Why isn't there a manual for this stuff? Lol Too much YMMV here for a manual. Plus, if there was a manual, you would miss out on the adventure, as well as the opportunity to teach your own children (hopefully just the boys) how to grow their own someday...
Yours will be dandy in about 4-6 weeks. Resist all pleadings and derision urging you to mow it off. Yes. As with any facial hair, resist all attempts to shape it prematurely. Go hobo for about a month, then landscape it. Go full beard if you don't want to be obvious about the end goal. Don't catch colds. I use a trimmer or scissors to trim because I can't stand the strays rubbing the upper lip. It does not reduce the bulk, so it's fine, at least for me.
