If you are interested in hand lathering this week or for any of your shaves this week, post your shave feedback here and let everyone know how this works for you. I have found that I get nice lather and slickness when I hand lather. So let the shaves begin!
Razor: Parker 22R Blade: Astra (3) Soap: Daisy Mountain Naturals (Sedona) Brush: The Body Shop Really only needed one pass today since yesterday's shave was a nice BBS. Hand lathered and got a decent lather with the DMN. I wiped some of the excess in a mug for second pass if I needed before I started hand lathering. Applied to face and finished with brush. Very close shave today. Way to start the work week!
Razor: 40's style Superspeed Blade: Supermax platinum Soap: C&E Sweet Almond Oil Brush: Turkish #6 A good shave, but I clearly need to practice the hand lathering-I just had difficulty getting the C&E to its usual consistency. Otherwise, a good technique, and I did think I could feel slickness growing (or not as the case was) in my hand.
I have a standard sized hand... Maybe I just don't get this, but it seems I need a hand rather sized and shaped like a catcher's mitt to make this work! Or do I just accept that I am going to use more product than normal and waste a fair bit? I like the idea of being able to feel the lather as it develops, but I make quite a mess... I seem to develop excessive lather, that ends up everywhere!
Started hand lather week with Palmolive Cream. Lathers easily. Also in the hand. I like the fact that you've got direct feedback on the lather quality, but it still feels a bit messy. Let's see how tomorrow fares! Wilkinson Sword badger brush Palmolive cream Gillette flare tip rocket Treet blade (#5)
Tuesday. Vintage Travel King boar brush & Tabac soap. Had a bit too little lather for my taste, but that is probably me being unused to the brush and hand-lathering. Got a really close shave, though!
Used the Williams soap this morning. I must say that this soap does not fair well with hand lathering. Mainly I think because it requires more water than most and can be tough to lather in general. Got a DFS though. But probably will not use Williams with this method. The Ingrams is coming this week and I am looking forward to trying it!
I'm late for today-used CO Bigelow and it worked well in the hand, but I think soaps will be my true test of the method.
Used the Omega soap today. This soap works well using hand lathering. I have used it before with this technique. I got a nice rich and creamy lather. I just load the brush and whip about half off in a bowl to use for my 2nd pass. I lightly dipped the tip of my brush in water about half way though lathering. I was able to achieve desired lather in about 45 seconds to a minute. Nice 2 pass DFS.
Hey, hand lather success! I used Razorock Boston Tea Party with a Vie Long 12750, and the hand lathering got me both an excellent lather and a very good sense of exactly how well it was building. Plus, I've found it difficult to stick strictly to back & forth motions with the horse brush in a bowl, and it was not a problem at all in the hand. So, good benefit from the hand lathering, even if it may not end up as my go to technique.
Good to hear! Agreed. I don't usually hand lather. But I do like to mix up my routine. Depending on what I want to do that morning. Sometimes on my days off, I do a nice light lather then hot towel prep. Enjoy some classical music and enjoy the shave!
I used the Daisy Mountain Naturals today. Nice lather achieved and a DFS. So far this week, the Omega has been the best. I will probably do one more day of hand lathering and bowl lather starting on the weekend.
Yeah, DMN is nice! I'll be bowl lathering in the weekend as well: Rolls time, and then I 'need' my other hand for some decent stretching.
Thursday: QED Wild Rose, Travel King boar, Valet & fresh Feather blade. Excellent combo: 14 hours later still almost BBS!
