My wife found this at a local antique shop for $5. In fact the shop has three. There are no markings. The top cap looks very much like an Old Type but, as you can see, the combs on the bottom plate are crazy long. The handle is hollow, but much heavier than a Gillette ball-end. Any ideas? Herm
The only thing I can figure is that it's some kind of DE hair thinner or trimmer. As a regular user of the later Playtex trimmer that works on basically the same principle, with careful use that thing would do the job (but likely somebody else would have to use it on you). Even now something very similar can be purchased... Could be designed for trimming a child's hair.
Heck, just as a conversation piece, it might be worth $5. Put that out on a table or shelf where visitors can see it.
More pics. With a blade this time. Nearly non-existent blade gap. I tied to shave some hair on my arm, no luck. Combs aren't exactly straight, either. Don't think you could shave with it. Final pic is with the bottom plate from a no-name OC I have. Fits perfect, might shave pretty nice. I'd think the comb was home made, but there were three just like this. Herm
