I cant belive I got one of these, been after one for awhile now, Ive never seen one with the leather travel case, or one thats brass, only ever seen plated ones if anyone has inof on this set please share I will try and clean it up as its quite dirty as you can see
Yeah I intend to use it. the blades need honing I think, but after talking to Justin (etoyoc) se blades will fit in it, so im gonna order some it aint cleaned up fantastic but it is prob best part of 100 years old. Ive used boiling water with dish wash (3 times) and cif mouse (as no scrubbing bubbles here in UK, also used 3 times) there is a difference
As a chef and using knives every day, I know the name j.a henckels very well and have even owned a few of their knives, but I never knew they made razors.
The knives were excellent, held and kept an edge very well, rarely needed sharpening, very good steel
Yeah ive heard people have the same respect for there straights, never tried one of there's yet maybe one day
Cleaned up excellently. I wouldn't even re-plate it as the age and natural patina looks very handsome on it. Well done! Score!
Just a word of caution: if you haven't used another SE like the Rapide (Wilkinson Sword Empire comes to mind) take it verrrry slow, and pretend you're shaving a balloon. If you don't, your balloon may spring a leak... I like that style- I have Wester Bros. hexagonal and round handled sets. Not exactly "matched", but for my purposes... Edit: If you have a Stag, King's, or Scott's hone handle, they'll hold the long wedgies. 600 & 1500 grit wet/dry on a flush surface, followed sith drawing (stropping) on a piece of leather from Hobby Lobby will render a serviceable edge.
Cheers for that, I have a strop but no hone/hones yet, I do intend on buying some later in the year. I see that some people buy SE blades for them, I will strop these blades tonight and see how they feel.
