How do you shave a long grown facial hair?

I am thinking of growing some beard for a change. However, I would like to know how to shave it later on (getting clean shaven). I first get a trimmer and cut it down to the point that I can shave it with a razor, right? Can I shave it directly with a razor, or it will get clogged with hair? Thank you.

Yes. That's what I'd do. Cut it short with my trimmer, load up the R41, and go at it. Or your razor of choice..

I grow a beard every winter, usually...at least a full goatee and 'stache. Last month, I shaved off the full beard I'd let grow since Thanksgiving. You can use a trimmer but I've found that any open comb with a good blade will take off your beard just fine by itself, without choking. An SE will do it too, and most won't choke up, either. A safety bar DE will likely require a trimmer to mow it all down first.

I trim it down to where I can comfortably shave it off with a razor.
