I realize this will vary depending upon type of cream, water softness/hardness, type of brush, etc. But how long does it typically take you to whip up a bowl of lather?

I never set a stopwatch to measure precisely, but I would hazard a guess of one and one half minutes on average.

I have soft water. It's less than a minute with cream or soap.

Since I lather in it's container, tin or bowl, about a minute usually works for me.

Yeah I'm usually good in less than 1min, maybe 2 minutes at most.

I mostly face lather, so if I take longer, it's usually because I am enjoying it not because I need to.

My response is like those that posted before me. It takes a minute or less to whip up a lather for my shaves. The variable here is the soap and brush used.
