Go to WWW.mr-razor.com and click on the solid guard bar link for the gillettes. Its the best resource I know of and it's how I identify my Gillette razors.

:pics: If you think it is an Aristocrat, I'm going to assume it's gold plated. Gillette made many models of razors that were gold plated, not just Aristocrats.

Has it a solid guard bar or is it a open comb razor? If with solid guard bar: notched or no notched?

there is the 1941 Aristocrat without endcaps. The 1946/47 Aristocrat has endcaps and comes in a blue leather case, brown leather case with white inlet, brown leather case with copper inlet and red leather case with red inlet.

There is no end cap, and when looking inside the end the piece you can see does not have a slot for a screwdriver it is just a flat solid end. No case with it.

now it´s clear: it´s a 1948-50 Aristocrat that has lost his endcaps

I could use some help trying to determine if this Gillette England Aristocrat is a #21 or #16 razor head? The person who owns this says it’s a #21 but in my way of thinking the solid handle makes it a #16 most likely.

I appreciate your observations and comments.
    Thank you!

That's a #16. The 21 looks different, just with the same knurling pattern on the handle.

    It's a beauty as well.

    Hey Dansco,
I thought so, but the well meaning guy was convinced otherwise.
I’m pretty sure he bought it having been told otherwise.
    Thank you,
    Mark

The case gives the name of the set. Yours is a #21 set with a third generation Aristocrat. That´s legit, many british sets comes with different generation razors.

Well there you go!! I knew it was a #21 case but I've always referred to that razor as a #16.

Oh wow, this will be good news to the owner!
Just when it looks straight forward there’s a nuance or exception.
    LOL

    THANK YOU!

One give-away is how they clench their jaws when they speak. An affected British accent is another one.

    :D
