Hey man, once you re-plate it, the resale value is gonna take a hit, so I think the "Damn-That-Looks-Good" factor become an increasingly more dominant issue to take into consideration...:happy097 Beside maybe you could tap into the under-ground razor-porn market...Might be worth more to you there than in resale...:happy102 BTW...Have you given up on the Two-Tone look ??
She started her life in gold, she should continue in gold. Besides, you have the New in Black Nickel so that is in your collection.
How about rose gold, or even green gold?! They used to used the colored gold to make little scenes on the backs of pocket watches.
Shaved with it this morning. Still the same awesome shave I remember from a 1934 Aristocrat. Normally I would agree with the majority on rhodium but as many already know, the British Aristocrats are originally rhodium-plated. And I've got one of those in my rotation... a 1937 British No. 15 Aristocrat. So I can look at this 1934 USA version in 2 lights... Go with something besides rhodium since I've already got a rhodium version; or go with rhodium because this version is the first TTO razor ever made by Gillette and it should have been rhodium instead of gold in the first place. ......... us shaving nuts always over-analyzing a razor....... :rofl
Are you going to send your fusion for replating also? Did you make a final decision on which plating yet?
ha! I'm proud to say I've never bought or owned a fusion! I think I have decided on rhodium but black nickel is still tugging at my brain a little bit... Whatever it gets replated in, I want to figure out how to take it apart so I can make sure the inner workings are soap and scum free so that when it's replated, it works like a new razor. I can tell there's some gunk in the handle as the TTO isn't too smooth.
I like the look of Rhodium. While knowing how stuff works is a good thing, i hesitate about taking razors apart as I worry about getting them back together. Watching a video of how someone disassembled a fat boy cured me of my curiosity.
Usually I would vote, depending on the razor, Rhodium or Nickel, however an Aristocrat is such a cool- and elegant-looking razor (not to mention its name ;-)) that i just had to vote 'Gold replating'. I personally have no gold razors at home, I don't actually very much like the look, however should I ever acquire an Aristocrat, it will have to be in Gold, they just lok awesome in that color.
I agree with your assessment. The only issue with gold that I have is that it doesn't wear very well under normal use. Same thing with silver, just not as bad as gold. I think I've about made my mind up on the rhodium.. just got to kick the last remnants of "go with black nickel!" out of my head. :happy102
OK, it's official.. The 1934 Aristocrat is boxed up, postage paid and in the mail box on it's way back home to Massachusetts for some new clothes: RHODIUM! Stay tuned for before and after pictures...
well since you already shipped it it's kind of pointless to give my two cents but I thought that a two tone black nickel and silver would have been a good look for it, but nevermind, as long as you like it that's all that matters
