I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The PSC Caffeinated Shave Cream face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #30 silvertip badger brush. I did two passes with the Schick Adjustable Razor with a Personna blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

After the best part of a week on Vintage SEs, I have the opportunity to try a Sabre V1 lent to me by a friend on a UK Forum. It is supposed to be mild, well it certainly is smooth and yet efficient. I found it to very pleasant to use, as it seems to suit my beard and shaving style, enough weight to allow the weight to do the work with no use of pressure.

I was rather sceptical about this razor, but have to admit that maybe it might not get quite as close some Vintage SEs, but this first Shave was extremely comfortable with a more than acceptable all round finish. I shall have no hesitation in reaching for this Tomorrow.

    Weekend Setup

    Pre-Shave: Hot Shower
Brush: 24mm Silvertip Frank Shaving (FS)
    Soap: Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera
    Razor: Ever Ready 1914
    Blade: Red Devil(scrapper blade) (12-13)
    Strop: Amish made
    Stropping Machine: Ever Ready
Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse, OSMA Alum block and Lilac Vegetal Aftershave
    Photo:
    SOTD 2&3 Dec 2017.jpg

This was the setup for the weekend. It was the first shave using the 1914 and my first 1914. The razor is in good user shape with some plate on top of the cap and the comb. I will have to keep an eye out for one in better shape. I have also used the boar brush for the past month so today I also used the FS 24mm Silvertip. It was so soft and a very big bloom. Though it is some size knot as the boar.

Saturdays shave I did a two passes with a scrapper blade that had 11 shaves on it after stropping the blade twenty times. It has another smooth shave that left me with a DFS. Finish off the shave with some Veg. I haven't shaved yet at the time of this writing but the set up will be the same.

    Army/Navy week kickoff shave...
West Point did break a 14 year domination by the Naval Academy last year with a 21-17 win. My maternal grandfather served in the Army during WWII, so I will pay respect to our brothers-in-arms with this shave.

Razor: Col. Jacob Schick’s Repeating Razor C-2
    Brush: EverReady 100a
Soap: Vintage Williams infused with Lime & Frankincense
(Mug, soap, and brush were my grandfathers)
A/S: Razorock Essential Oil of Lime

My second Shave with the Sabre, mild it may be, but it deals effectively wth my beard growth, and allows me to buff up
to a great all round finish. Shame it costs so much to import to UK.

    GemS/S [ 3 ]

    Pitralon Original A/S Lotion

Three shaves in with the Sabre V1. As this Razor is so smooth and forgiving, it is very easy with a Vitos lather to indulge oneself in buffing up to get a great finish, which I did today. I have no idea how long it took but it has to be one of my closest all round Shaves.

I am not sure about getting another Razor as I already have a few in my rotation, and perhaps could not justify the expense.

Test shave today with Tom’s Igor adjustable single edge razor. I think I had a problem with how I loaded the blade but the end result was super close, super smooth - right up there with the Bunny, PAL Injecto-Matic, and Hussy. :happy036:

This week I will be using my Damaskeene’s. They are some smooth shaving razors. I much prefer them with the old blades.

    Stirling Baker Street
    ER 1924/EJ89 Handle
    Gem S/S [ 1 ] with 1/2 Spine Shim
    Alum Rub/Rinse off
    Tuff Green A/S Lotion

After 3 Shaves with a Sabre V1 decided to go Vintage. I have for some time experimented with the use of shims in Vintage SE Razors, as I do not have the expertise to prepare NOS blades. Personally I have found it to work in certain Razors, some 1912s benefit others do not. The Biggest difference I find is in the ER1924, which I use both with and without a Shim.

Today, I used a 1/2 spine shim placed directly under the spine of the cutting blade. The 1924 is IMHO calmed down a lot, and I had an extremely smooth and comfortable Shave, and was even able to utilise it to do the polishing up strokes needed to get a Top Notch close all round Shave. The Shave was much quicker and more efficient than my recent shaves with the Sabre V1.
