Here's an interesting find. A barbasol de razor. Anyone ever see one of theses? It looks pretty interesting, but the head won't screw into the base. Someone must have dropped it at one point and snapped the head off inside.

That is a Barbasol Bakelite Handle a non-floating head Barbasol razor, which means the blade sits right on the “teeth” of the guard bars rather than at a gap, as in the floating head version. It is less aggressive than the floating head but supposedly still provides a decent shave. Not as big a demand as the Floating-head models. Too bad about the non-threading cap.

Compare it to the floating head model:

That's cool. Does that mean that your new razor is not usable? That would be ashamed.

thanks Holy. And unfortunately it is not usable. It should need a new head and the base drilled and tapped out. The rest of the threaded section is still stuck in the handle. Maybe one day I'll find a new top, but it's not likely.

Can't you remove the handle and work in the base plate ?
You can fir another handle with an inner tube like this:

Lot of work and money,i don't know if it's worth it.

the base plate is attached to the handle of this razor. The problem is, even if you did do that, the threads of the top plate are broken off most of the way. That is a cool handle piece though, did you make that?

Yes, just as with the Merkur design, the razor base is affixed to the handle = no switching out of the handles.

Regrettably, there is probably no cost-effective fix for that Barbasol.

  8. To bad - I never knew Barbasol made a razor - that's a nice handle though.

The idea was mine,i wanted to replace the stock insert.
I don't have a metal lathe so i give instructions what to make for me
When it's time for serious metal work you need expensive tools.
In my blog you can see the procedure (for example in brushes) and you can see photos from my "bench".

The top cap of a Gillette Old Type will thread on and is usable.

It is probably much easier to find one of those than Barbsol top cap.

Or you can send it to me and I will re-handle and use it.

The good: I got the broken threaded end out on the handle via easy out and the internal threads are still fine.
The bad: An old type top cap is different thread pitch. The barabrol razor has slightly coarser pitch.
