Is there a scuttle in your garage???

Found this little beauty in the garage the other day. This morning I put some warm water in it while I jumped in the shower, was hot by the time I got out and so was the bowl. Kept the lather nice and warm through the shave. This was my first experience with warm lather and I am a fan! I think I picked this idea up in Leisureguy's book.

I've wanted to buy a scuttle, but can't spend the money right now. If you are in the same boat, who know's maybe you might just have a scuttle hanging out in your garage. :scared003:

Very nice! And so satisfying to repurpose something you own. Leisureguy's book is awesome. I think I'll use a violet pot "redneck scuttle" till my gear shows up. (My possesions were sent by geography-challenged movers to the wrong coast last month :()...Your post makes me happy. image.jpg

Thanks! Hopefully next week *fingers crossed*

Bwaaa! Not all all. The "redneck scuttle" name was coined by the gent who first reported using a self-watering flower pot for a scuttle. You'll sometimes see "redneck scuttle" or "poor man's scuttle" for a nonstandard or homemade scuttle. It's totally tongue-in-cheek, as impromptu scuttles are some of the best! http://straightrazorplace.com/brushes/15926-redneck-scuttle.html

I know grad school can feel like you're paying for the privilege of working overtime. Happy shaving & saving! :)

    Homegrown scuttle round 2...

Had to talk my wife into letting me try this one...It's one of those things that melts scented wax, like an air freshener. I was worried that it might get too hot, but in the time its takes me to shave it does not! Worked really well actually!

    Have a great day all!

Nice ingenuity! You'll be looking at everything as a possible shaving implement soon. ;)

First gent, maybe, but not the first. Violet Pot

O Bravo! Madam, I stand corrected. I'll head over to post my pot on that thread. The Violet pot scuttle needs more lovin'.

Wal-Mart generally has different styles every year, and of course you can get violet pots in lots of other places.

They definitely do! I'll gather a range of styles & sources to add to the Violet Pot & Bowl/Scuttle Envy threads. For example...

I picked up a self-watering pot at Walmart a few years back - $5. Cheap way to find out if a scuttle is for you.

I had kinda the same idea only using an electric candle warmer and let me tell you, it keeps the lather HOT as long as its plugged in, its hot. I use a cappacino (misspelled Im sure) for my lather bowl and man, it works like nobodys buisness. I put hot water and my brush in it while I shower and when I get out the mug is hot. I dump the water, whip up my lather and shave, the time it takes me to shave, the lather is kept hot on the warmer so when I pick it up to make pass 2 , yep, still nice and hot.
The best thing is my soap dish (matching my mug, $1.38 at wally world, mug $2.00 ) stacks inside and not only looks good but the warmer goes under the sink out of the way. CAM00112.jpg
