Are you using both hands? I tried with one hand but some of the angles I needed to get a close shave were impossible. Once I started using both hands it was a big improvement.... after I built up the muscle memory in my off hand.

I'm glad to see you making progress. It gets much more addicting with each successful shave. Over time, "the look" becomes "the sigh" which becomes "the eyeroll" which becomes "the good natured snicker" which just becomes a smile. It gets better

This morning was one of my favorite kind of shaves. A successful shave with a straight that I restored and honed. Last night I cleaned and honed this baby. It was a pleasure to shave with and I'm dolphin smooth

I have to give you props. I can't imagine trying to start something like shaving with a straight without the security of being in my own "well-stocked" bathroom.

I've started to, but haven't quite figured out what hand, grip, angle, etc. to use where. I probably need to watch a video of someone who's got it down. Suggestions & links are welcome.

Frank, I admire how you've jumped in and experimented with so many different soaps. It's cool how your Bride and daughter share your enjoyment. Congrats on a fine shave.

I showed my Bride a bunch of cool shave den photos like this one. She said it gave her chest pains. So, I was not successful in convincing her to let me convert 1 of our 4 bathrooms.

So, I came up with a Plan B. I showed her this cool shave cabinet, and she told me I could install one in the closet. :happy102:

Thank you. I am very lucky to have a wife and daughter who are willing to share in my passions, hobbies and interests. It makes all of these things that much better.

I use the exact same grip with both hands. They just mirror each other. Practice the grip and strokes with a butter knife to get the feel down. Good luck.

Embrace "the look". It means you have her attention. Then go with the North Korea Option. Present Plan A that is the nonviable, easy to dismiss folly. Then give the fall-back compromise that she'd rather relent to. It's a win-win! Less about winning the argument than letting her agree with you.

No-Shame Poor Man's Green Travel Kit Shave:

We are making a quick overnight late father's day trip to visit my parents. I haven't a dopp kit of my own yet, so I co-opts one of my daughter's many makeup bags.

    Magic Shavette
    Sputnik blade
    Barbasol shave cream

I continued merrily along the path and smell like a man fresh out of the ole barbershop.

Bully, if I do say so myself!

    Razor: Schick E2
    Blade: Personna (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today was my first shave with a Schick E-series Injector. Throwing a bit of caution to the wind, I went with my favorite blades a Personna. To be honest, I was a bit intimidated going into this shave; I'm tend toward milder razors and had always heard how "aggressive" the E-series were. In actuality, I had no issues with the razor of the shave. I will agree that the E2 is very "efficient" with more blade feel than, say, my J1. I might go so far as to say that the feel is in a fuzzy area between Injector and more traditional SE razors such as the Gem 1912.

Let's just call the result a BBS and be done.
