June 2017 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

So tonight was the first shave of June.

I used my Schick E3, the amazingly handcrafted brush by @jtspartan with cashmere knot, some Maggard's sweet orange PSO, and Dr. Jon's Conquest soap.

The brush lathered well, and two passes I was good to go. I didn't even bother to touch-up. A splash of Energy aftershave milk and I was set.

The straight will be Sunday or Monday, but the Schick will remain in use during my focus.

Mine came today, as well. Dark handle like yours, but no knot. Absolutely gorgeous.

 

I have to admit, I've done that once or twice myself. Hope it isn't too bad.

Not a shave report, just some chortling and gleeful hand rubbing: my package from @jtspartan arrived today. It contained my 30DC LE brush in natural maple handle with cashmere knot and an extra tuxedo knot I had ordered, PLUS an additional cypress handle that Jason included as a generous thank you for sending him a couple injectors. He explained that the cypress handle was a "second" that he had rejected as a 30DC LE because its dimensions were "a little short and thin" but he thought it might still be a "fine" handle.

You know, he's right: when I lined the brushes up, the top part of the cypress handle is a whole 1/4" or so shorter and the handle bulge is a little narrower than the "acceptable" handle.

My conclusion:. Jason is a perfectionist.

I have included pictures of both brushes alongside my 26mm Alluminati Envy White badger brush as a comparison. Now I just have to decide on a knot for the cypress handle... Does anyone have any experience with the two-band badger knots that Maggards now sells?

My other conclusion, btw: I threw the handle from my woodhandled Kent boar brush back into the garbage. When I compared this "professional" brush with its poor grain choice, visible lathe tool marks and globby varnish to Jason's "amateur" productions, I could no longer be bothered wasting the time and money to dig the rest of the old knot out of it and reknot it...

Hope it isn't too bad and you can get straightin' again soon. It's horrible to fall with crap in your hands. Of course, that begs the question as to why there was crap in your hands.

Figured you would love the performance and portability I'm going to work on the scent then we're good to go.

Today's was the funeral for my father in law. It was also awards day for my son, who is finishing 5th grade. I am super proud of him. Dude is 5'8", wear size 13 shoes at age 11, and won a number of awards, including all A's all through elementary school, math awards and the President's award for academics, among others. It was a very bright spot in the day. I had to sing and read scripture at the funeral, so I went with a tried and true setup: Weck Sextoblade and Tabac. It was a sweltering hot graveside service in the South. But we saw lots of family we haven't seen in a while and celebrated the life of a good man.
