I'll be the first to admit I am not very good at correctly identifying old SE razor. Picked up this little thing for $17 as I thought it looked a bit different - at least to my untrained eye. Anyone clever here that can identify it for me please?
I kinda figured out that But, to me the back and internal patent engravings looks a bit unusual - then again, I am probably wrong
Thanks - teah, I tried to find a match as well but couldn't find anything. Hm. Best case: It is an unusual/early version. Worst case: It's a $17 SE razor. Sounds like many of my purchase rationalizations
That is a Star Super Six, I have the same razor that was sold under the Stoll name for Sears in the 1920's. Wilbert Cutlery also made knives and straight razors sold by Sears. The Stolls were actually manufactured by ASR for Wilbert Cutlery. Nice find, they aren't real common.
That's a really nice SE! I've never seen one like that before. Did you get it in the wild or ebay? It kind of looks like a cross between a "Lather Catcher" and a "Shovelhead". I hope you will use it and lets us know how it shaves.
I have a question. Have you considered buying a cabinet to display your top notch growing razor collection? The wooden racks are ok for daily shavers, what you have are really some beautiful pieces of history.
More than likely the shave's on par with the Damaskeene or Ever Ready "Lift Here." If so, it's one of the best SE shavers ever.
They probably look a bit unusual because it's not a vintage razor. That patent date isn't even a year old, I'm guessing some hipster did a kickstarter to start their own 'vintage' razor company and ripped off the STAR design, made a slight change and patented it. Obviously I could be wrong though.
