Im going to be upgrading my shave setup but the thing that HAS to be upgraded is my razor and i was thinking of getting the Merkur 34c but i saw the Slant was essentially the same price and everything so I was wondering how is the Slant razor commbared to a de89 or a vintage gillette open comb

It might help to know what you are using now. I can't do any comparisons, but I just upgraded to a 37c a week ago and I really like it. Very efficient, mild if you can maintain zero pressure, and great for thick hair sensitive skin combo. If you plan to DE shave for any length of time, then you should definitely try a slant at some point.

There are some earlier posts below that I found helpful.

The Merkur slant is more aggressive than either of the other two you're thinking about. But like gwsmallwood said, it shaves smooth if you keep the pressure off. I learned slants aren't really my thing and I get consistently better results with a normal razor. But the only way you'll know if they're the best thing ever for you is to try one.

I'm confused as to why the razor keeps slipping out of your hands, or why anyone has an issue with slippery razors. I've never had that issue with any of my razors, to include the extremely smooth finish of the Merkur Futur.

Yes, I'm wet shaving, that means my hands are wet during my entire 3-pass shave. Wet hands and wet razors are not slick. I make sure to keep any and all soap off my hands. I am not one who runs water during the shave in order to rinse the razor - I fill the sink and swish the lather off the razor there. I still have NO issues with soapy hands. If any lather happens to get on my hands, I quickly rinse it off.

As I said, my Merkur Future has no grip and I have no issues.

The issue us soap (lather) - don't let it get on your hands or remain on your razor.
