I'm looking for a milled soap stick for doing quick touchups. Lets see the suggestions. Right now I'm thinking Valobra(which I sold like a fool), DR Harris or tabac, any others I should consider?
Yes, Speick and Palmolive are both tallow based Triple milled sticks. For me, Speick was funky, it gave me pimples... I think. They went away after I stopped using it, anyway. I HIGHLY recommend Valobra and Palmolive. Not too pricey, great performance. I haven't tried my Tabac yet. I am a stick man. I LOVE them. And Valobra is a very close second to MWF in my heart.
My personal recommendations: Speick Palmolive Erasmic Arko Speick and Palmolive smell great (IMHO) and lather wonderfully. Erasmic lathers wonderfully, the smell is nice, nothing special. Similar to the scent of Harris Arlington, but not identical - same type of scent. Arko has a scent that many don't like - if you have smelled Ivory soap, that is what it reminds me of. But it lathers incredibly. I also tried a TOBS St. James shave stick that was nice.
Thanks for all the recco's so far, I forgot I have a stick of arko, but will see about trying to get some palmolive and or speick in the future. I also just got a cube of Serbian shave soap(80 grams of tallow goodness) that will function as a shave "cube" in a pinch. I posted a review on B&B. (what's the policy on linking to other sites here?)
Arko. Blah. I know some love it, but the smell. Oh, the smell.... I would rather rub my face with Lysol.
superbleu, All of the previous suggestions are good, depending on your soap preference, but I think the most fun way is to make your own. You can get empty twist-up containers from Mama Bear, for example, or you can use push-up or twist-up deodorant containers. I have used a 1/2 oz. travel size deodorant container for both melt-and-pour (glycerin) and grate-and-pack (milled) with great success; and they can be made in just a few minutes. The small size allows one to experiment more frequently with virtually any soap made, the obvious exception being soft soaps. Cheers, Larry
