The other day my wife wanted to pick up a couple of vases, so what better place to shop "the thrift store" So I thought I can look for Gillettes, I've tried this before with no luck just ziplock bags full of pink razors! I am looking for the perfect vintage, not for my collection but for a newbie giveaway. I see a young guy that's works there and I ask him if they ever get in old razors, not knowing if he even know a what I am talking about, I am thinking the only razors he has seen are the ones hanging in Kmart, but he replies " yeah once in awhile, but we throw them away, but I keep the cool silver boxes to put my weed in" My blood ran cold, because I know he's talking about ABC Button Co. Pocket Edition Gillettes. They throw the razors away because of biohazard, haven't they heard of Barbercide.
I picked up my '65 Slim at an estate sale where the guy had to go through the trash because he'd thrown it out along with a late 40's Old Spice mug. I guess people don't know what they don't know.
That's what happens here also. Thrift stores are not allowed to sell the razors they receive. The only place I've even seen them are at antique stores but the prices are insane.
Same here the thrift stores here throw them out.. I've asked them to give me a call but they haven't.
I like your title. The salesperson sounds like a guy with a bone in his nose and tattoos up to his eyeballs..
OK, I'm confused. What's the difference between a thrift store and an antique shop? Prices? They carry the same junk.
Thrift store is what they call it in our neighborhood @Herm2502, on the upscale part of town it's an antique store.
Thrift Stores usually support a charity and don't pay for the merchandise they sell, they just accept donations, and don't just sell antiques but really whatever comes through the door. Antique stores are often for profit but I have been to a few non-profit ones, and they usually strictly sell vintage items.
