A lot of sound offs on the Muhle R89. Hmmm....might have to pick one up and do a HD vs. R89 comparison.
It is superb. A veritable jewel! The other cool thing about it that it shaves really well. Very smooth and comfortable. This is what I needed. Constant, comfortable, great shaves! I think this should be the first the recommended razor for any newbie. Way better than the HD! That is my opinion. And who has both the HD and a 2009 Muhle razor, can confirm this.
A kind of razor introduced by Gillette in 1929. Here are some pictures. It was new then. The razors they made before that are retroactively referred to as "Old Types".
The last couple of weeks on week days I've been using a Merkur Progress. On weekends I like to use any one of several straights, I'm partial to a John & Wm Ragg Sheffield "Napoleon" however.
For Progress fans Eric Maier modified the Progress for me recently, creating his "Mergress." The white plastic is gone, replaced with a beautiful metal knob, the added color to the dots is striking and subtle at the same time, the adjustment and the numbers are now in sync, and the weight distribution, most importantly for the shave itself, is much better. I thought the razor was terrific before the modifications, and now it's much better! (I have no connection with Mr. Maier whatsoever, other than having read of his product, and having purchased it.)
T.Noonan 5/8", I am absolutley in love with straight razor shaving thanks to this blade. Now only 43 and counting to go in the rotation.
