I found the tag. It says WWII Serviceman's Razor. I have no doubt that it belonged to a WWII serviceman at one time, but this is pre-WWI. I took it to the lady to get clarification on the price, and she said $25, so I jumped on it. I told her all I knew about the Double Ring and showed her the serial number. This is the find of a lifetime for me. I just got back from the Wal*Mart and I have some silver polish. I am going to try that first before the boiling water/baking soda/aluminum thing.
The only problem with FLITZ, and Maas is that it's a little abrasive, and if the plating is thin, then you will be looking at brass quickly. BTW, nice ABC Razor. I have one just like it. And the "Cackalacky Kid" scores another home run. Fantastic results. What brand of silver cream did you use? If you use a toothbrush with the cream on it, and scrub the handle more, it should brighten up even more.
Scrub it in, let it sit for a few minutes, and do a little more scrubbing. Then use some liquid detergent and a toothbrush to remove everything. Let me know if it works for you.
Be sure to let us know how she handles. I've done similar with common ball end old types but I'd consider taking it easy with a double ring considering how rare they are and thin the plating can be.
So happy for you Jim. All the great brushes you have produced and pretty much gave away. If anyone deserves such a rare razor in such good condition it is you. I can't believe that handle: NO CRACKS.
