I'm new to wet shaving (having only started a week or two ago) and i absolutely love it. I use a safety razor starting with one of those Van Der Hagen starter kits you can get in pharmacies and the like and very quickly realized how much I loved it. Upon mentioning it to my father and mentioning wanting a better razor he said he actually had one and gave me what I believe I've identified as a Gillet Milord Tech that once belonged to my great grandfather. Afterwards I made a razor and bowl stand out of some wood and copper piping and went out getting a nice seeming bowl from an antique shop. The last step (for now) on the road to my setup was to make my own shaving brush which I shaped from some wood I had laying around and added a badger hair knot.
Welcome to TSD @Kraken98! Glad you signed up and hope the community here can answer any questions you have. The VDH razors are well built machines. They took their inspiration from an earlier TTO DE made by Gillette - the Flare Tip Super Speed. (The photo loaded well the second time )
EXCELLENT looking gear! Especially the razor, as it's been in the family. Work your technique and you'll be rewarded with a better shave than ever thought possible. @Bama Samurai beats this drum, and it's 110% accurate: technique trumps tools.
BTW @Kraken98 glad to see you posted an avatar. So much easier for me to remember an avatar than a generic symbol that many people have. Sorry I didn't acknowledge you set up ... good job on the shaving brush and razor stand. Your Milord looks to be a 1946 and has the same build as a 1940's Super Speed. It will prove to be a very a nice razor. If you get curious for other after shaves; AV musk, Pinaud Clubman, and FloridaWater are also very nice and available at many local retailers.
I totally agree with you on the avatar thing I had intended to change it as soon as I joined but got sidetracked. Thanks for the suggestions I'll check them out! Sent from my SM-N915V using Tapatalk
I second that. Just did a 30 day rule and was well worth it. @Bama Samurai has the plan . Made me into a shaver. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Lots of guys here will help you along as they did for me. This is an awesome group of fellow shavers. Welcome aboard.
