My nickel allergy is what started my first interest in wet shaving. Straight razors are your friend...get one. There are some all-SS or copper razors that will work, but you will have to search. Bakelite should be a good option too. If you have to spend money, just do it. It is better than not being able to shave or having redness all the time.
Yeah, rhodium plating would work. Gold plating too, but it'd have to be done by a third party. The original gold plating was a wash, and maybe he's allergic to nitrocellulose lacquer as well. Silver plating might be nice - maybe he'll like the patina
Another option is gunkote. I have a slim from Delta echo. As far as I am aware, the finish is actually a ceramic. But these are not particularly inexpensive.
I put a Gillette OLD type cap on my Pearl, the handle is already brass, so only the baseplate is Zamak. At least the threads are brass on brass.
