Hi all! I just made the switch to a DE safety razor on the suggestion of a friend, and after lurking around a few threads here to find suggestions. I decided to make the switch because my job requires me to shave everyday (Professional Firefighter), and my face was starting to get frequent razor burn. Plus, traditional cartridges are expensive when you have to shave everyday.

    My current setup is:
Razor: WEISHI Long Handle Version Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor - Amazon
Blades: Persona - Amazon - (I'm a little unsure if what I got are the blades pictured. The printed logo on all my blades is blurry/smeared/unreadable, and the blades are wrapped in a plain white paper instead of the blue paper shown.)
Soap: Henry Cavendish Himalaya Shaving Soap - Amazon
    Pre-shave: Proraso White - Amazon
After-shave: Bath and Body Twilight Woods with aloe - It's what I already had in the cabinet, but will be looking for something new before too long.

    My current routine:
Shower (usually, but sometimes I'm not able to shave until a few hours after I shower)
Fill bowl with hot water and soak brush
    Wet face (cold water)
    Apply pre-shave
Create lather with shave soap and brush
    Wet face again (cold water)
Apply lather with brush, using a mixture of circle motions and just painting it on
    Wait about a minute
    Shave WTG
    Wet face again (cold water)
Apply lather with brush, using a mixture of circle motions and just painting it on
    Wait about a minute
    Shave XTG
Rinse with cold water, dry with towel using patting motion
    Apply after-shave

Sorry to ramble on so long, but I wanted to put it all out there because I am open to any and all suggestions. I still suffer from a little razor burn, but things are getting better as I refine my technique. I'm also curious if I'm doing my shave routine in the right order, and am open to suggestions there as well. I'll update this post with links once I'm able. Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

    Hello and welcome

The blades are called persona labs, i like them, they are vey sharp, and long lasting.
The Henry cavendish soap. I have it(a gift). It isn't very good. It smells nice, but lacks in cushion and glide. So many other soaps would make your new method more enjoyable. (See the shave of the day thread for many other options )
    Glad your here, enjoy.

    Hi! Welcome to the Den!!
As far as the right order for your shave routine, looks fine to me, but...
It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.

Thanks for the feedback! Yea, I have now read things from a few people that didn't have good things to say about the Henry Cavendish soap, and I agree that it doesn't provide very much glide. So I'm now shopping for something different.

    Welcome @jered6323!
Sounds like you're off to a solid start.
If you have a a Bath & Body Works nearby you can pick up C O Bigelow Premium Shaving Cream(aka Proraso Green) in a large tube for $10. Also check out your local CVS et al for supplies.
You might also want to consider blade/cream-soap sampler packs.
Good luck and enjoy the journey!

    Thanks all!

@RetLEO-07, are the C O Bigelow products decent? I do like the smell of some of them. I'm also buying a few samples from Stirling Soap Company, as I've heard good things about their stuff.

The Bigelow smells just like Proraso Green('cause it's made by Proraso). If you're unsure they have a small tube for $5.
    No experience with Stirling.
