When I saw that Maggard Razors had added an Open Comb head to their line of razors, I immediately ordered two, one for my own Maggard MR1 handle and one with a handle for a PIF. The top is Zinc Alloy and the Base is brass. The MR1 handle is Stainless Steel. I just had my second shave with it today. Brad Maggard rates it as mild to medium for aggression. It is very mild IMHO. I loaded a Gillette 7 O’Clock Blue Super Platinum in it. The blade alignment was spot on. It only took a few strokes to get the angle just right. It gave me a good smooth shaves both days. This will be a great razor for folks wanting to try and Open Comb razor. It is very mild and very easy to use.
I like it! The teeth do not seem to be very wide, I'm going to be ordering one soon. Thanks for the review Bob.
How timely! I just noticed those OC heads last night, so really appreciate this post! Thanks. Now that you've had the test drive, which common razor would you say it shaves most like? My eyeball says it might be like an Old.
I saw it too just yesterday. Kind of looks like the Merkur 41. Might have to pick up one and try it. Thanks for the review.
I had my 3rd shave with it today. As I said, it is very easy to adjust to, and easy to use. It does not give me as close a shave as my NEW Short Comb, Slim or Fatboy, but then I was not expecting it to. I did get 3 good, smooth, close shaves (not BBS close).
Thanks for the info, Bob. I was looking at the Maggard to add to my OC collection. Now I gotta have it!
I used one of the new Maggard V2 OC heads. It is MUCH better than the original. I got an extremely smooth, close shave; as good as with any of my razors. The blade alignment was perfect, no jostling it into position. I used a Personna Med Prep. The Maggard's listened to us! Thanks! New V2 Head
