    I know enough about vintage razors to make a decision on what I want next, but am almost like a newb when it comes to new razors. What advice do ya have, ladies & gents?

    My advice - don't think about it until August ;)

    Edited: NEW razor….(i.e. currently in production)—
    Muhle…beautifully finished, priced reasonably, well-designed
    R89 (mildest) close comb; R41 (big set up in aggressiveness), modified open comb.

    I think that by 'new' he means 'currently made' - but I may be wrong :)

    Yep. I understand, for the most part, vintage razors. I want to expand my knowledge on new razors but don't want to take shots in the dark.

    Are you looking for something aggressive or mild?
    OC or safety bar?
    Big or short handle?
    Price range?

    If you're talking about something actually new, I'd suggest a 3 piece as opposed to a TTO. Then really it's just a matter of OC, Slant, bar, etc. and how much you want to pay.

    I have no preference, price about mid range.

    You may have to spend some time on youtube watching half-naked men shave.
    I put myself through waaay too many of those when trying to figure out which one may work the best for me :) but there is some value in seeing these razors in use and hearing someone narrate what they think as they use them.

    Some starter recommendations:

    GeoFatBoy and Edwin Jagger DE89:

    GeoFatBoy and Merkur 34C:

    Mantic59 and Muhle R41:

    If you want an OC, I'd suggest looking at Cadets. They're inexpensive, but very good. Some of the handles are works of art, and the heads are pretty aggressive. If you're in the $30-40 range, any of the EJ's or Merkurs are going to work, and it's just kind of a game of which handle you like best at that point, I think. If you want to go a bit higher, I'm going to say get a Weber before Patrick does.

    Dapper-in-a-can-man;

    I will not answer because I think you would know my answer. ;)

    Read my reply above. :signs011:

    Also I have been dealing with idiot Nurses and a Visiting Nurse Home Health Care company or I would have replied earlier.
    Oh everything has worked out.

    I had a Cadet. It was murdered by my cat. :mad: I don't want pot metal, they are just to fragile... if my cat broke another one I may be jailed.

    Cadet = Zamac Casting 3 piece / TTO Brass Head and Frame
    Parker = Zamac Casting 3 piece / TTO Brass Head and Frame
    Weber = Steel

    Thanks Gary! I just don't want to have another screw snap off a base plate. I might, now that I think of it, JB Weld that screw back :p

    JR Reyes I scream for....chicken wings??

    As far as quality and value, I say its hard to beat the Weber or Ikon SC101. They are fairly mild shavers. I recently wanted to try something a little more aggressive, and picked up a matador toro mastiff corto, and have been impressed. For the price, its a pretty good deal. What is your favorite vintage razor, and we might be able to find a modern one from there...

    Believe it or not there are some people that believe it is just as good as brass or steel :happy102:
